Cancer Comfortghans
Materials
Children who are receiving chemotherapy treatments have very sensitive skin. Although some specialty yarns may look beautiful--they are very scratchy! Avoid yarns that have metalic or shiny fibers as part of the ply. Also avoid all natural fibers such as chenille, alpaca, or wool. Some children are highly alergic and these types of yarns do not hold up well with machine washing/ drying.
We've found through trial and error that the Red Heart brand yarns manufactured by Coats and Clark are excellent! The acrillic yarns hold up through repeated washing and drying (even in hot water and bleach), tend to soften with washing, and they have bright bold colors that children enjoy.
